Obituary for Marilynn McFadden (Merry)

Marilynn McFadden (Merry)
Marilynn Helen (Merry) Caton, Krohn, Cannon, McFadden

Marilynn was born Feb 1 1925 to Nettie (Riggs) & Noble Merry in Wichita, Kansas. She was the youngest of 3 daughters. Her sisters, Marjorie Brant & Phyllis Edwards preceded her in death as did her parents & her son, Michael Dean Caton.

Her childhood was happy with her dancing & music abilities. She was baptized in the Fairview Christian Church in Wichita, KS. She married Dean Caton when she was 18 & her daughter, Deena was born a year later & her son, Michael, 5 years later. When she was 25 her husband died of Tuberculosis after a 5 year illness.

Her 2nd husband died of cancer 15 months after they married. Marilynn was 28. Though she married again to France Cannon & later Harold (Mac) McFadden, they didn’t work out & they have also preceded her in death. She stayed single after 1975.

Her daughter married David Gibson in 1962 & twins were born in 1967, Darrell & Daneen. Michael Caton, her son passed away in 2004. He had spent 20 yrs in the U.S. Air Force. His son Adam was born in 1987 & his son Dean in 1971.

Marilynn worked as a Secretary in the Regional Office of Montgomery Ward for 28 years in Kansas City, MO, plus 3 more years as a retail clerk for them in Phoenix, AZ. She raised her daughter & son in Kansas City, KS & Kansas City, MO. She moved to Phoenix in 1983.

Her friends, Missy, Joanie, Shirley & Vern & others at the American Legion in Sun City will miss her at bingo. Her daughter, Deena & her husband, Dave, her grandchildren Daneen & Darrell with wife, Diane & Great Granddaughter, Donica will remember the good times getting together birthdays & holidays. Her white cat, KittyBaby was with her from 1994 to 2012. Her other Great Granddaughter, Averie Caton was born in 2012, daughter of her grandson, Dean & Sharon Caton of Vancouver, WA. She loved corresponding with her dear cousin, Virginia Mitchell of CA & her nieces, Constance Autry of NV & Jackie Edwards of CO.

Marilynn left us Wednesday, April 19th, at age 92. She was such a good secretary that she even wrote her own obituary to be read at her Graveside Service. Thank you to her friend Allene Maloney for introducing her to Adult Coloring Books, which she loved & spent many hours doing in colored pens. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. Many thanks to her wonderful, loving caregivers, Julianna, Dennis, Claudia & Tina for the 9 months she was at Arrowhead Village Adult Home Care in Glendale, AZ & Carrie & others at Hospice of the West.

Private graveside services were held for the family at Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City, AZ.
