Joseph Galas Jr.
Joseph “Joe” R. Galas, Jr., 78, passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2017 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born February 22, 1939 in Phoenix, AZ to Joseph R. Galas, Sr. and Paulina Reynaga Galas. He was a 3rd generation Phoenix native. Possessing a strong work ethic he made his living as a commercial and residential painter for various companies including Pete King Corporation, and then as a self-employed contractor as La Casa Painting. He was a member of the Phoenix Painters Union. An avid sports fan, football was his passion. He played football for Phoenix Union High School; was a Pop Warner coach for 7 years, winning the State Championships with his team, the Boilers, in 1979; and became a diehard ASU and Arizona Cardinals fan. In addition to sports, he was known for his love of hunting, target shooting, ammo reloading, gun collecting, World War II, family history and traveling in recent years. He was the official family menudo maker during the holidays and was always trying new recipes for BBQing or smoking his favorite meats. He most enjoyed spending time with his extended family and friends and reconnecting with his children who he adored and was most proud of. Easygoing, he had an infectious smile, charming personality, was good natured with a great sense of humor and giving spirit, and had developed genuine humility in his later years. He leaves a huge hole in the Galas family and will be greatly missed by many.
