Obituary for Robert Reed Shields

Print
Robert Reed Shields, Doctor of Chiropractic

To all who knew him, Rob was born “39 ½” years ago in Cardston, Alberta, Canada; the youngest of Reed and Eunice Shields’ six children. Although dyslexic, he accomplished much educationally: Bachelor of Science in Agronomy/Horticulture from Brigham Young University, Civil Engineering Technologist from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College.

Rob was a multi-talented man who lived a life of service to others. He honorably completed a two-year church mission to Kansas City, Missouri. He built numerous houses and renovated or repaired many, many others. He made waffles, from scratch, for anyone who would let him. Seeing a need, he responded without being asked. Rob greatly enjoyed his Pathway service mission which helped adults begin a college education and he especially loved helping patients with chiropractic care.

He made friends everywhere he went – and, when he liked you, he teased and played pranks on you complete with a twinkle in his eye, a big grin, and a delighted laugh.

Rob is survived by his wife of 43+ years, Kay, (yes, the math doesn’t work – he liked it that way); their children: Kendra (Bryant) Flake, LaTia (Brian) Peterson, Janel Shields and Ian (Kristi) Shields; and their grandchildren: Hannah, Jason, Douglas, Kyle, Dulcinea, Isabel, Maverick, Rhett, and – any day now – Indiana. Rob is also survived by his older siblings: Clair (Rochelle) Shields, Carroll Penner, Ian (Arda) Shields, and Alaine (Roland) Maw.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8840 N 61st Avenue, Glendale, Arizona.
