Obituary for Gerhard Schoenbohm

He was born on Sept. 30, 1934 in NYC, New York.

He was the first born of two son of Alfred & Paula Shoenbohm. Gerhard married Brigette Weiss in Nuremburg, Germany in 1965. They had no children. She passed away in 2013 and Gerhard passed away on April 9, 2019. His brother Uwe Schoenbohm of Kupferzell, Germany and Uwe’s two sons, their wives and two grandnephews from Berlin, Germany survive Gerhard.
Gerhard joined the US Army at age 17 ½ and served in the Artillery attaining the rank of Master Sgt. Following retirement he served another 15 yrs. in the DOD (Dept. of Def.) at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
He and Brigette also owned & operated a café for many years in Lawton, Oklahoma featuring German cuisine. It was called “Little Germany Restaurant” and was very popular with the young German Luftwaffe Pilots who were being trained to fly American aircraft at Ft Sill, Oklahoma.
Gerhard organized and coached the German pilot’s soccer team and thoroughly enjoyed doing so.
Gerhard was very proud of Brigette’s German cooking and the lasting success of her restaurant.

They moved to Sun City in spring of 2000 for health reasons, as Brigette could no longer tolerate the heat and humidity of Oklahoma summers. Gerhard made the transition from being extremely involved in soccer in Lawton, Oklahoma, to being an accomplished competitor at Ping-Pong in Sun City.

Gerhard will be interned next to Brigetta at Arizona National Cemetery in North Phoenix.
