Kathleen Marie Sobol, née Getz, aged 70, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, died Monday, February 17, 2020 in Tolleson, Arizona surrounded by the love of her family near and far.
Kathleen passed in peace after battling the progressive disease PSP for too long. Though beset by this extremely limiting condition, she never let the disease define her and she was never heard to complain, always keeping her humor and wit. PSP may have taken her body but her spirit, courage, grace and strength will never be forgotten.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, John R. Sobol of Williamsport, PA; her daughters: Megan Sobol of Oakland, CA, Maddie Sobol of Peoria, AZ, and Mariel Sobol of Tolleson, AZ; her siblings, Ralph Getz and Janice Borowski of Williamsport, PA; and her grandpuppies: Bella, Sophie, Boomer, Bella, Rosco and Mowgli.
Kathleen graduated with a diploma in Nursing from Harrisburg Polyclinic in 1971. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 42 years before retiring in 2013. Her last years of work were for Divine Providence Hospital PACU in Williamsport.
Kathleen loved spending time with her daughters in Arizona and California. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds, keeping house plants, cooking for her family, playing with the dogs and Words with Friends. She especially enjoyed ice cream cones with her husband, and caring for others before herself.
Kathy extended her generosity to so many organizations and in lieu of flowers, she would want donations to be made to her favorite charities: Smile Train (smiletrain.org), Cure PSP (psp.org), and the American Humane Society (americanhumane.org)
A memorial service to celebrate her life will he held in Williamsport, PA, time TBD.
One of Kathleen’s favorite quotes she is remembered by: “Fear knocked on the door. Faith answered. No one was there.”
