Obituary of Sydney "Syd" Tyson

Sydney (“Syd”) A. Tyson, 78, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away of natural causes in his home on March 21, 2023. He was born on October 9, 1944 in Perkasie, PA. Syd was a beloved father and brother who will be remembered for his big heart and tenacious spirit. Syd grew up attending a one-room schoolhouse during his elementary years in Pennsylvania and spent multiple summers at cherished Camp Berea in New Hampshire. He studied at Rider College in New Jersey before joining the Coast Guard where he proudly served the United States for four years in the sixties. He was talented in the arts as a great singer and enjoyed painting. Syd had an extreme love for both baseball and cars, which he passed on to his son, Brad. Syd lived in numerous places across the country over the years (including St. Louis, MO; Pittsburgh, PA; Wichita, KS; Baton Rouge, LA and Sun City, AZ) with his time living in Colorado holding a special place in his heart. His daughter, Heather, shares a similar sentiment living in Denver today. He worked in retail for most of his career and continued consulting during his retirement and up until the time of his death. Syd is survived by his sister Gwendolyn Tyson of Souderton, PA; sister-in-law, Jean Tyson Campbell of Sellersville, PA; his two children, Bradley Tyson (Jessica Hansen) of Fort Worth, TX and Heather Tyson of Denver, CO; and one grandchild, Ian Tyson. Preceding him in death were his parents, Howard and Hilda (Snape) Tyson, and his brother, Norman Tyson. The family plans to hold a private service, with Syd’s remains to be scattered from his favorite place, Pikes Peak. Memorial donations can be made to Berea Ministries online at www.bereaministries.net or by mail to Camp Berea, 68 Berea Road, Hebron, NH 03241.
