Thomas Greenhalgh

Obituary of Thomas Greenhalgh

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Thomas Vernon “Vern” Greenhalgh at the age of 93.  Vern was born in Iowa on March 28, 1930 to the late Otis Roy and Mary Ethel Greenhalgh.  Passing peacefully in Peoria, Arizona, Vern joined his Lord and Savior on Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Vern was ordained as minister for the Disciples of Christ Church in 1953.  He served as pastor for many churches throughout his long life in many states including Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas and, most recently, Nebraska.  Vern had many interests through the years.  Early in life he enjoyed fishing and hiking.  He was very involved with church youth groups and the Boy Scouts of America.

Vern is preceded in death by his late wife, Betty Greenhalgh, and former wife and mother of his children, Alice Marie Green; his parents, Otis Roy and Mary Ethel Greenhalgh; and his brother, Glen Greenhalgh.  He is survived and lovingly remembered by his sisters, Phyllis (Jim) Short (Arizona) and Betty (Eugene) Williams (California); his sons, Cris (Brenda) Greenhalgh (Minnesota), Tom (Cheryl) Greenhalgh (Minnesota), and Dan Greenhalgh (Kansas); his six grandchildren Steven (Kelli) Greenhalgh, Matthew Greenhalgh, Brittany (Dan) Harvey, Danny Greenhalgh, Brittany (Vic) Yockey and Lauren (Michael) Gibbs; and nine great grandchildren, Aria Greenhalgh, Maia Greenhalgh, Aubrey Greenhalgh, Damon Harvey, Lilyan Haller, Claire Yockey, Alice Yockey, Logan Gibbs and Finnley Gibbs; and many nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.

We extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Dessert Winds Senior Living in Peoria, Arizona for showing Vern unprecedented care, dignity, and respect during his last days.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to local Disciples of Christ Church or your favorite place or worship.
