Obituary of James Arthur Van De Voorde

Jim Van De Voorde, of Buckeye AZ (formerly of Meriden KS), passed away suddenly on Sunday July 16, 2023. He leaves behind his wife Cheryl, son Nathan (Robin), and daughter Kate as well as 7 siblings; Bernadette Weidner, Marilyn Cronkleton, Annette (Larry) Tillberg, Jane (Steve) Kincaid, John (Cheryl) Van De Voorde, Joy Van De Voorde, Joe Van De Voorde and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was born in Geneseo Illinois, and graduated from Riverdale High School. He received a scholarship to play football at Coe College, and after time at Coe he served his country honorably in the Vietnam war. He was a successful businessman who owned and operated 2 different companies in the tire industry for almost 40 years in Topeka Kansas. He was a farmer, as was his father. He was a devoted family man who found great joy and happiness in spending time with his loved ones. In retirement, he and Cheryl moved to Buckeye AZ, where they lived these past five years. He became a formidable Pickleball player, supported Veteran causes, and volunteered at a local no-kill animal shelter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Henry and Eugenia Leona (Marchand) Van De Voorde; brothers-in-law Ron Weidner and Jerry Cronkleton. No funeral services are planned at this time.
