Obituary of Don Vance

Donald (Don) Gene Vance of Sun City, AZ, went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2023 at the age of 90. He was born November 19, 1932 in Huntington, Indiana. Don served in the Korean War, stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army Band for two years. He worked at the Ft. Wayne Independent newspapers for 10 years prior to moving to Arizona in 1959.

Don was with Phoenix Newspapers Inc. (Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette) to his retirement in 1989. He was active as a board member and/or Director of PPMA (Phoenix Personnel Management Assoc.), Toby House, 25-year member and past President of the R&G Credit Union, Past President of Phoenix Life, Accident & Health Claims Assoc.

Don and his beloved wife, Carolyn were married for 67 years and were members of Lakeview United Methodist Church. They were both active members of church and served on various committees. Don loved his family and he enjoyed family get togethers and hearing about all the news from the family.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Dr. & Mrs. Walter H. Vance; his brother Billy Joe Vance; his wife Carolyn M. Vance; his daughter Vickie S. Lozano-Hier; his grandson, Kurt E. Wynn.

Don is survived by daughter Diane Wynn, husband Dennis; daughter Lorie Stringer, husband Kenny; daughter Judie Sawyer, husband Joel; son-in-law Dennis Hier. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial service to honor and celebrate Don’s life will be held at Lakeview United Methodist Church 10298 W Thunderbird Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351 on Saturday, November 4 at 11am. Reception to follow at Smoot Hall.
