Obituary of Joseph Frank Shaw

Joseph Frank Shaw, “Joe”, of Tolleson, AZ passed peacefully Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Evanston, IL on March 15, 1943.  Joe grew up in Columbus, OH where he and his brothers were known for their musical talents as the “Shaw Brothers”.

Joe was an amazing athlete but instead chose to follow in his brothers’ footsteps and joined the US Army.  He survived two tours in Vietnam and represented the US Army as a basketball player.

Once retired from the military, he became a Postal Clerk in Tacoma, WA, and met the love of his life, Susie.  He inherited three teenagers (what was he thinking, lol) that loved and respected him so much.  Years later they became grandparents which is how Joe became the greatest Papa of all time.

If you knew Joe, you knew that anything he did, he did it well.  Whether it be darts, bowling, golfing or just making Dad jokes, he nailed it all.  He was the epitome of “Joe Cool” with his amazingly positive, easy-going nature that allowed all he knew to love him so much.  He was truly an extraordinary man, and this loss will be felt deeply by many.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Susie; his sons, Chris (Kacia), Gene (Casey); daughter, Lynette (Don); grandchildren, Grey, Anna, Alec, Geno, Hamilton, Carly, Holden, Connor; and great-grandson, Dakota; along with many loving nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald and Letha, and brothers, Reginald, Robert, and William.

A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at a later date.
